On October 18th West Greene had 26 students attend an academic field trip to WVU with Mr. Schrock (College Communications), Mrs. Ullom (AP Literature), Mrs. Martinak (Librasry) and Mr. Jones (Anatomy/Biology). The students received training from the research librarian at WVU library on how to get research material for writing papers and other documents. This class is normally presented to college sophomores by this librarian. This information helps prepare our students for entry into college and college research. The students then migrated to the Health Sciences building via the PRT where they experienced a college level lecture by Dr. Tim Nurkeweicz, physiology professor at WVU. The students also had the opportunity to experience a large lecture auditorium and take notes as if college students. The professor was very impressed with the diligence of the students and their questions. Finally, there was an informal session with Dr. Nurkeweicz and Dr. Lizzy Baldridge. The students were afforded the opportunity to discuss college, graduate school, selecting majors, any other topic with these professionals. These professors will visit our school in the near future to discuss experimental designs and how to get the most out of peer-reviewed journal articles.
