West Greene Aquaponics Program was awarded a $1,000 FirstEnergy STEM classroom grant. The grant funds will be used to add solar power production to the aquaponic system, in order to test the feasibility of running it off-grid. Students will develop experiments and collect the necessary data to determine the best use for produced power and methods to store the energy. Their results will be a guide to determine future scalability of the system.
Special thanks to Randy Durr, External Affairs Manager for West Penn Power, for taking the time to meet with our students and present the award in person. West Greene would also like to recognize the generosity of First Energy for making this opportunity possible.
