Dear Friends and Families,
We are so excited to tell you about Second Grade’s big new adventure. Our new Reading Specialist, Miss Leeann Danley has come to us with loads of talent and a great big heart. Miss Danley attended Waynesburg University where she participated in missionary trips to Guatemala. While there, she taught English and got to know many people in the small town of Patzún. The town’s people were kind and appreciative. She continues to share her talents with them every year on a regular basis.
Miss Danley shared her experience with our class and enlightened us on how truly blessed we are. The second grade team has decided that this is a prime opportunity make a lifetime memory for our students. We would like to sponsor two eight-year second graders and then follow them on social media. By using this means of communication we are lessening the distance between two cultures. It’s our goal to promote humanitarian service to others and the fortunes of a good education. It only cost $200 a year for tuition and $50 for supplies. Families in this small Guatemalan community must pay out of pocket for their education. For many, the luxury of an education is just not in the cards. Last year our students gave to the Humane Society, The West Greene Food Pantry and a Hat and Glove Drive for their gift exchange. This year our students will be foregoing their gift exchange for a small donation toward the scholarship.
Please enjoy the writings that our second grade has been working on. If you feel so inclined to donate to our scholarship project, we have set up a GO Fund Me Account at gofundme.com/guatemalan-scholarship-fund. We would love to have response on what you think about our project.
Thank you and happy holidays!
