The PSAT 10 will be administered to all 10th grade students on Wednesday, April 2nd. The PSAT 10 provides students with valuable practice for the SAT and insight into their academic strengths and areas for improvement. This year, the test will be online, so it is important that students: bring their fully charged Chromebook on the day of testing and computer charger to ensure their device stays charged throughout the test. Please remind your student to come prepared for a successful testing experience. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the counseling office.

I'm excited to announce the arrival of our very own bee hive! Mr. Painter brought the idea to me in 2023, and after applying for the grant through Whole Foods, we were awarded an observation hive to place inside the classroom. Thursday evening, I was able to transfer our package of bees into the observation hive and carefully place it in the classroom. For next couple of weeks, the fourth grade students will be learning A LOT about the bees and their importance in food production. I'm looking forward to visits from other grade levels as well.

The goal of Share the Fair is for every student at West Greene Elementary to be able to walk away from the Scholastic Book Fair with a book! The money collected will go towards purchasing books for students that would otherwise leave the fair empty-handed. If you would like to contribute, please click on the book fair link and then click on "contribute now" where it says Share the Fair. If sharing online is not your thing, you can also send money with your student (please just send a note with it so we know what the money is for) or donate money to Mrs. Bohon .Thank you for supporting our readers! https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/westgreeneelementarycenter1

Yesterday, Mrs. Bohon took a team of 5th graders to the IU1 STEM Design Challenge featuring K'Nex at Penn West California. Students had to create a prototype that addressed a real-world problem related to infrastructure, transportation, or urban development. West Greene students chose a design to deal with flooding and droughts. The students had to build their design and present their ideas to a team of judges. There were over 10 teams competing in the 4th & 5th grade division. West Greene's team did really well and only missed placing in the top 3 by half a point!

After a few days at Universal Studios, swimming with dolphins, snorkeling with stingrays, witnessing a NASA space shuttle launch, kayaking to find glow in the dark jellyfish and lounging on the beach, the seniors have finally returned from Florida with new memories...and plenty of sunburn.

During library/STEM class with Mrs. Bohon, 5th grade students in Miss Nulph's homeroom worked on a STEM challenge where they had to create a design out of clay that could float and hold weight. Each group in Miss Nulph's homeroom was able to make a design that was able to float and hold weight! The group that held the most weight consisted of Emilie Lampe, Kylie Phillips, and Emalee Sotler. Their design held 120 grams. Great job girls!

Local author and illustrator Angie Candell also visited the third graders in the library! After reading her book, she explained what it is like to write and illustrate a book. The students got to answer many of the interactive questions that Angie asked them about the gardening content found in her book, and they got a chance to ask questions about gardening and chickens to Angie. The third graders got to look at a variety of seeds. A special thanks is given to the WGEPO for sponsoring this activity!
