As per CDC/DOH guidelines, the West Greene School District will be restarting traditional instruction on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

School pictures for grades K-6 have been canceled for this coming Tuesday and rescheduled for Monday, October 12th. More information about school pictures will be sent home in the Tuesday folders.

Football Ticket Information 2 tickets per household, not per player, are only being sold to the following: Parents of VARSITY football players Parents of VARSITY cheerleaders Parents of band members As many of you know, PA House Bill 2787 (giving local schools the ability to make decisions about facility capacity during their school events) passed the House 155-47 and passed the Senate, 39-11. Once it gets signed by both the Senate and the House, it will go to the Governor who may sign it, veto it, or let it sit for 10 days and become law. Once that occurs, we will be able to expand our capacity. As of right now, our main concern is to give parents the opportunity to see their children play.

School picture day at the JSHS is Tuesday, September 15. Order forms went home with students Thursday, Sept. 10. Extra order forms, if students need them, will be available in either office. You can order online using the website and Picture Day ID available on the order forms. EVTKBCXCQ is the order ID.

FREE MEALS FOR ALL WG STUDENTS: For the entire month of September, all WG students are eligible for free meals. This opportunity may extend beyond September, but that information is unclear at this time. If interested, you may view our menu at wgsd.org

Parent Drop-Off for elementary students is from 7:55 AM to 8:30 AM. We are expecting a higher than normal volume of students getting dropped off which will likey cause traffic congestion in our parking lot and on Hargus Creek Rd. When pulling into the lot to drop your child off, please do not leave large gaps in between your car and the one in front of you. Please be patient as we get students temperatures taken and out of the vehicles. Please use caution when entering and exiting the drop off area. If you can delay dropping your child off until between 8:15 and 8:30, that may help in minimizing congestion in our lot and on Hargus Creek Rd. Finally, we encourage all parents to take their child's temperature prior to bringing them to school. Any student with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will not be able to enter the school building. Thank you all for your patience as we enter this unique school year.

Kindergrten Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1st at 2:00. If you haven't yet received an invitation to attend, please contact the elementary office at 724-499-5183 for details. We are asking that only 1 parent/guardian attend the orientation with their child. We are looking forward to meeting you and your child.

Secretaries will be making live phone calls to all homes of students beginning tomorrow, Monday, August 10th. They will be asking several important questions that will help us with the final details of our plan for children to return to school this fall or to participate in the on-line learning offered through WG. Please look for the call in the next few days and answer the questions asked to you as accurately as possible.

CALLING ALL SUBSTITUTES: West Greene S.D. is the only Greene County school returning to a traditional 5 day/week student schedule this fall. We would love to add additional substitute teachers to our list. WG subs earn $95/day for the first 30 days worked and $120/day for every day after 30 days. Physicals will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at the Elementary Nurse's Office from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon. We ask parents to have a completed PIAA CIPPEE form completed for their child to get a physical, AND to call in to the Elementary Office and schedule a timed appointment (not just show up and wait). 2019-2020 Prom Cancelation Dear Students and Parents, Due to the West Virginia mandatory face-covering requirements, the social gathering limits of 25 people, and the uncertainty with increased cases of COVID 19 in our region, the Prom Sponsors and I have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 West Greene Prom. The Prom was to be held at Lakeview Resort on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. This was not an easy decision to make, but we believe that it is important to be socially responsible during this time. The West Virginia indoor face-covering requirements state that individuals must wear face coverings indoors where social distancing cannot be maintained. The social gathering limitations of a maximum of 25 people also will impact the number of students attending Prom. We will be making arrangements for students to receive a refund for the cost of their Prom Tickets. That information will be posted to the District website and other Social Media outlets as it is developed. With all of the planning for the start of the 2020-2021 school year and other activities that are occurring at this time, we would like to be cautious with the events that students participate in so that we do not put anyone at risk.
