The students in Mr. Polander’s 6th Grade ELA were learning about the Great Seal used in the United States and the various symbols that are included in the seal. An example is the olive branch in one of the eagle’s claws symbolizing peace. Each student designed their own family seal explaining how the symbols represented their family. They used the writing process to develop their finished writing.

Students in Mr. Bruno's guitar class recently attended a field trip to Waynesburg University. Several members of the music faculty treated the students to a presentation on the history of jazz music, the application of the guitar in a jazz setting, and they played several examples. The students had a wonderful experience and were graciously treated to lunch afterward.
Mrs. Richardson's sixth grade classes teamed up with the Blue Star Mothers group. This is a group of mothers who have active duty or veteran children. They are preparing to ship out care packages to soldiers. Students in 6th grade donated items, drew pictures, wrote thank you notes, and wrote some “Bubble Gum Tales” for the packages. Bubble Gum Tales are a collection of funny stories or memories that students wanted to share with the soldiers. Students enjoyed some bubble gum while writing their stories. When finished students tried to show off their biggest bubble. The students enjoyed writing for this project and many volunteered to write multiple Bubble Gum Tales.
Beware! A group of Frankensteins were seen lurking outside of Mrs. Booze’s 2nd grade classroom! Mrs. Booze’s 2nd grade students applied place value concepts to three digit numbers. As they completed each place value task, they were asked to build one part of their “Frankie.” Once they completed all mathematical tasks, they had a fully built Frankentstein. Learning and fun were had by all!

Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, smoking, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign. We observe Red Ribbon Week in October. It began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985. Today, we use Red Ribbon Week as a chance to discuss drugs and alcohol, safety with prescription medication and how to stand up against peer pressure and the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.
Join WG's SADD Club, staff and students, as we observe Red Ribbon Week, October 23-27, with daily themes to help get the messages out with us!
