Our students that participated in College 101 through Pierpont had the opportunity to visit a few of their campuses on April 20th. Students were able to see some of the majors that Pierpont offers such as Phlebotomy, Welding, and Culinary Arts. After touring the main campus, we had the opportunity to visit their new state of the art culinary program. Of course this tour wouldn't be complete without a taste test, in which our students got to try a caramel apple foster over yellow cake and banana pudding. This was a great opportunity for our students to see the options they have close to home.

On Thursday, April 18th we had 22 of our science club members along with their sponsors trail to Grand Vue Adventures in Moundsville, WV where they tackled several obstacles of "Mind over Matter". It was an exciting day, hearing our students encourage each other and provide support when it was needed! Our adventures sparked real science conversations, and allowed students to explore different worlds within the sciences outside of the classroom. Definitely an experience we hope to enjoy again!

West Greene's first annual STEAM night kicked off this past week, and it was a success! Our 3rd-6th graders were able to explore different areas of STEAM due to 15 of our science club members setting up and sharing different hands-on experiences with them. These activities included our students inoculating their own agar plates (just like your doctor does when they test you for strep throat), learning how to successfully record their own fingerprints, designing/building their own airplanes, completing diffusion art, exploring erosion with several of our FFA members, and competing against each other using math flashcards. We also were able to enjoy yummy snacks due to Mr. Elsenhemier's help! Such an awesome night, we can't wait until next year.

In preparation for the Solar Eclipse on Monday, Mr. Wilson got the third grade students together in order to model the event. The students had fun making models of the moon and Earth and demonstrated how the moon's shadow travels across the planet.

Mrs. Booze's students have been learning about the total solar eclipse that will cross over North America on Monday, April 8th. They created models to show what takes place during a solar eclipse. The models allow students to visualize the moon passing between the sun and the Earth. The students are looking forward to wearing their protective glasses and viewing the eclipse.

Last week, members participated in the State Legislative Leadership Conference (SLLC) in Harrisburg, PA. Students were able to learn about the legislative process while taking an active part in it. A huge thank you to Senator Camera Bartolotta for setting a Capitol tour and providing lunch and Representative Bud Cook for coming to breakfast with our students! These are such unique opportunities for our students.
