On Thursday, February 29, 2024 our West Greene Senior, Dylan Wilson and his team competed at the PA ProStart invitational in State College, PA where they competed in both Culinary and Management competitions. They did not place in Culinary but their team did receive 2nd place honors for their project, as well as over $30,000 dollars in scholarships each.
If you see Dylan, congratulate him on such an outstanding job!

West Greene took four elementary teams to the Greene County Reading Competition today. Everyone worked hard the past three months to prepare and answered many questions correctly today! While we only had one winning team (The Meaning of Reading), everyone worked really hard and put in a lot of effort!
The Meaning of Reading - a West Greene Reading Competition team - won first place in the elementary division at the Greene County Reading Competition today! They were 1st out of 11 teams! Congratulations to Rylee Carmichael (team captain), Jackson Allen, Wesley Bosco, Alex Collins, Jed Mason, Felicity Reynolds, Wesley Rohrer, and Seth Vath!

Congratulations to sophomore Colin Whyte for placing 4th in the PIAA Southwest Regional tournament this weekend. He secured his trip to Hershey winning 5-3 in an exciting overtime match in the bloodround. Colin will wrestle in the PIAA state tournament in Hershey, Pennsylvania March 7th through the 9th. Good Luck!
We had a wonderful week celebrating Read Across America! Thanks to all the guest readers for helping us celebrate. We finished up with some buddy reading with first and second grade. Book Madness is just beginning. Can't wait to see which book wins for 2024. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
And the tournament begins! Grades K-2 and grades 3-6 are having their very own March Madness bracket-style book tournaments throughout the month. Every day, students will cast a vote between two books. At the end of the month, we will find out the ultimate champion!
Kindergarten ended Read Across America week with one last special guest reader - our very own Officer Wood!

On Friday, March 1, 8 WGEC students will travel to Yough Intermediate Middle School to participate in PMEA Elementary Sing Fest, an exclusive elementary choir made up of 140 students from 38 districts across Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Fayette, and Greene Counties. West Greene SD is the co-host for the event and will be recognized as such during the concert. The students will spend the day rehearsing their music with Dr. Ryan Keeling, director of Choral activities at Westminster College, and will give a choral performance at 7:00 that evening. Tickets can be purchased at the door at a cost of $5.00. All are welcome to attend.
